Think!

Three things we learnt this week

Each and every week the Square Holes team are deep in the bowels of a number of projects, working to mine all of the insights that we can to help grow businesses and support thriving cities.

These insights are used by businesses and organisations to innovate their offerings, move into new markets, track their impact and hone their products and output. Each week we will be sharing a broad insight that we have learnt for you to use in your own work.

Let us know what you find valuable!

Jason: Innovation feeds sustainability

In reflecting on our research about emissions reduction, particularly in the context of Barossa’s wineries, it’s fascinating to see that the heart of the matter is really about embracing innovation. Sustainability isn’t just a challenge; it’s a catalyst for progress. Whether we’re talking about making wineries greener or addressing the affordability of housing, the key takeaway is that necessity pushes us toward creative solutions. In essence, innovation and sustainability are deeply interlinked. It’s about seeing environmental responsibility as a driver of new ideas and better ways forward.

Dylan: Ask the question

Asking questions is at the core of what we do at Square Holes. This week I watched a talk all about the value of curiosity and the small jolt of joy, the ‘kick of discovery’, that comes from finally understanding something. Whilst asking questions is what I do every day at work, it can be so easy to take things as they are in our everyday lives. How many moments of joy are we missing by not being curious enough to ask why. My takeaway this week is to be better at asking the question, even the odd, obvious ones.

Mahalia: Quiet achievers

In this day of influencers, podcast soapboxes and social media meltdowns, it can seem like the world is designed for the loud. But this week we have been platforming the quiet rebels, those people that make silent moves towards a world they want to see. There is absolutely a place for loud rebellion, but the quiet rebels are the ones that live in their values whether you are looking or not. And while they don’t command the same attention, their impact is being felt.
