Three things we learnt this week
Each and every week the Square Holes team are deep in the bowels of a number of projects, working to mine all of the insights that we can to help grow businesses and support thriving cities.
These insights are used by businesses and organisations to innovate their offerings, move into new markets, track their impact and hone their products and output. Each week we will be sharing a broad insight that we have learnt for you to use in your own work.
Let us know what you find valuable!
Jason: One step ahead
Being one (or ideally many more) step ahead is critical in decision making. Research is critical in this, see what opportunities lay below the surface and how to create change. To thrive in challenging times (such as now) it is even more important.
“Business, as the general populous, typically expect bad times to get worse and good to get better. They wait for others to move first, before they follow. In times of pessimism they seek signs of optimism.
Rather than embracing the opportunities of a pessimistic market, businesses tend to act when media, business and government are consistently optimistic… when all are riding the wave, competing in the same markets and when costs and conditions are likely inflated and preparing to decline.”

Mahalia: Remain curious
Overlooking or pigeonholing a community of people because you don’t understand them does a major disservice to both you and them. Remaining curious about humankind, in all its forms and varieties, can unlock lessons you didn’t know you needed.
Dylan: Progression vs tradition
Balancing progression and tradition means knowing what to evolve and what to preserve. Tradition can be used as a compass—grounding values and proven practices— whilst progression helps shape methods and direction. Revisiting the “why” behind both is also important, helping to make deliberate choices that serve both continuity and growth.
