Three things we learnt this week
Each and every week the Square Holes team are deep in the bowels of a number of projects, working to mine all of the insights that we can to help grow businesses and support thriving cities.
These insights are used by businesses and organisations to innovate their offerings, move into new markets, track their impact and hone their products and output. Each week we will be sharing a broad insight that we have learnt for you to use in your own work.
Let us know what you find valuable!
Jason: To market!
Product-market fit occurs when a product or service meets strong market demand, driving sustained customer adoption, satisfaction, and growth. As markets shrink—due to factors like rising living costs—businesses must refine their offerings to align with evolving consumer expectations. Research shows that as people become more selective with spending, those delivering exceptional experiences (through great staff, food, and service) thrive, while others struggle. Success depends on identifying new opportunities where demand, disposable income, and unmet needs align. Business is tough, but finding the right market fit is essential for survival and growth.
I coincidentally had this article emailed today that reminded me of the above: https://tribeglobal.vc/riches-in-niches/
Mahalia: Be bold
Have you ever walked out of a movie? Didn’t buy a ticket to a show because you couldn’t guarantee you’d like it? So much of our lives is trying to make things comfortable for ourselves – especially when chaos reigns in politics and the media. But when it comes to art, isn’t the point to be challenged? Doesn’t it call for us to step outside our comfort zones and well constructed social bubbles for a moment to try and see another perspective? Cost of living pressures is rightfully making us selective when it comes to where we spend our coin and time – but taking a gamble on expanding, or solidifying your understanding/standpoint is always worth the investment.
Dylan: Right people, right role
Having the right people in the right roles maximises individual strengths, leading to greater productivity and stronger team dynamics. When skills align with responsibilities, collaboration thrives and goals are achieved more efficiently.
